- A trip to Turkey in 2007 was a revelation for the quality of food. I still remember a modest lentil soup served on plastic chairs on a sidewalk in Adana, that made me stop mid-sentence. Don't even get me started on gyros and dolmas! So where can I experience the closest thing here?

Avedano'sAdd this placeGreat butchers, they completely know their stuff. Guest butchers. Underrated lunch sandwiches. Once a month classes where you can learn to break down a pig. I took a demo class from Chris Arentz and Ricardo Ricci, the latter from the famous butcher Dario Cecchini's operation on Panzano, Italy. Nothing makes me appreciate the source of great food than when I see the expertise and efficiency in preparation. I filmed the class and put it up on YouTube, watch it here

I travelled across the bridge to Luka's because SF does not have a restaraunt where black, white, latino, gay, straight, Raider fans and families (yes you read that right - kids with their parents) can hang out, listen to music, watch the game and have great food. Imagine Monk's Kettle with 5x size, ample seating, and mixed crowd.
