This is a beautiful sweet things cookbook with doable & tasty recipes! Magid takes old recipes for a spin with organic ingredients, whole wheat pastry flour here and there, and makes them better. Magid adds coconut to a carrot cake recipe and suggests adding minced fresh ginger, she takes Twinkies and Ding Dongs and turns them into something, well, wonderfully edible-- but the upside-down pineapple cake is the family favorite: it's like a giant decadent pineapple-caramel roll! Now, nothing I make from this book ever looks as beautiful as Magid's photos-- but that's due to my own slackerness. Magid includes instructions on how to make beautiful cakes and treats. I know in the right hands her section on design techniques and decorations would help a home baker make something good & gorgeous. |

I love this book! No boring vegetarian tome-- this book is full of interesting and, well, FUN recipes: Watermelon Gazpacho-- Thai Style, Parsnip Risotto-- (it's good honest!), Chilled Tomato, Peach and Ginger Soup --shockingly good! If you're a vegetarian cook looking for summer fun or a winter pick me-up this is the book for you! Written by a globe trotting London Chef born into a Greek Cypriot restaurant running family-- makes for tantalizing recipes!
