Years ago, before SoMA was really developed, I worked above the Henry's Hunan on 2nd street. It was the go-go dotcom days, and I ate dinner at the office pretty much every night for three years, yet there perhaps only 3 or 4 restaurants within an easy walk at that time (my how times have changed!)
Thus, I probably ate at Henry's Hunan about 300 times during that stretch -- and I have no regrets about it! Just wonderful, authentic food (with just the right amount of grease, too). They do indeed kick up the heat, and I think they permenantly...

harad answered “What is the best thing you've eaten this past week? (Week of 4/11/11)”Tue 26 Apr 2011 23:00:36 GMTSo there's little cafe called Kaju across the street from my son's school in the Inner Richmond. Drive by it every single day but have never been in. The red and white awning and tinted windows make this place look quite unremarkable from the outside.
In need of a quick sandwich last Saturday, I FINALLY darted in, more in search of sustenance than flavor. Dude, these guys need to fix that awning! Inside is a sleek and comfortable cafe with a compact, enticing and CHEAP menu that I will need to work my way through. Had the toasted salami sandwich, whcih was quite tasty, though could use a few more pieces of meat. The selection of $5 egg sammies looks absolutely awesome!
Ok, but where things get life changing is with the chocolate chip cookie. Just by looking at it, you know that the thing is going to be damn good. Given that I may have eaten 10,000 cookies in my life at this point, I'm hesitant to name it the best ever...but it's cerainly a contender!
This place is a nice little gem in the Inner Richmond. Go check it out!
- I'd vote Bryan's as tops in town as well. The meat is truly fantastic and I love the service from the old school butchers. But it's tough to talk about Bryan's without mentioning the prices - they are eye-popping! As our neighbor, himself a lifelong butcher says, Bryan's is the best, but bring two credit cards! No likes Can’t Like Unlike Like No likes
- Staring longingly at the fat slice of chocolate fudge cake (truly big enough for two!) from Suzie Cakes. It could possibly be the best take-out dessert in the City, but I challenge you to prove me wrong!
What's the best dessert (non-sit down restaurant category) in town?!? - I don't mind an occasional trip to Barney's (spicy curly fries immediately bring me back to my college days!), but I'd have trouble including it on a list of the Top 10 burger spots in San Francisco. No likes Can’t Like Unlike Like No likes

My goto is the turkey burger sunnyside, which includes a fried egg, aged cheddar, caramelized onions, watercress, tomato and siracha. It is tremendous!
(Disclaimer: Fried egg on top of anything is usually tremendous!)
I agree that their patties are a little on the smaller side, but I think it is a nice portion for lunch. Never leave there with that overstuffed/barfy/sleepy feeling that can follow some monster burgers.
