Years ago, before SoMA was really developed, I worked above the Henry's Hunan on 2nd street. It was the go-go dotcom days, and I ate dinner at the office pretty much every night for three years, yet there perhaps only 3 or 4 restaurants within an easy walk at that time (my how times have changed!) Thus, I probably ate at Henry's Hunan about 300 times during that stretch -- and I have no regrets about it! Just wonderful, authentic food (with just the right amount of grease, too). They do indeed kick up the heat, and I think they permenantly killed off my taste buds in 2001, but it was all absolutely worth it. I've still yet to find a kung pao chicken that can compare. I still get to Henry's Hunan once in a great while, but I'll always have fond memories of those years when we went steady. |
