While it isn't a vegetarian cookbook, there are plenty of meatless (or easily alterable) recipes in this one to make it a crucial part of my cookbook library. The brownies, for one, also the basic cream of vegetable soup. I seem to recall there being a table of all the vegetable suggestions in the older version my mom has, and they've changed it to just include a couple of variations in this version. That is kind of a shame, but they have added a lot of new recipes, which is nice. BH&G is a nice basic cookbook, not gourmet food,...
Love, love, love the vegan tempeh "bacon" recipe. Not difficult and the result is very tasty! Have not tried any of the baking recipes yet, but the Banana Rabanada (Brazilian French Toast) and Lemon Cashew-Stuffed Crepes with Whole Berry Sauce are both fantastic and I will definitely be making them again. I plan to work my way through pretty much all the recipes in the book, since they all sound fantastic. And really, who doesn't love brunch?
