I only recently stumbled upon Mark Bittman, but this one is fast becoming my go to reference cookbook. A great resource for gathering together ideas on what do to with this or than ingredient and how to combine it with other things I have on hand. I wouldn't say it has the most inspired recipes I've ever tried; but for tips, inspiration and encoragement to try something new on a daily cooking basis, it's extremely useful.
